Woohoo! Being a green tourist in Vancouver just got a whole lot easier.
While pursuing the title of ‘greenest city in the world,’ Metro Vancouver has been selected for a beta test of mobile coupon technology. The much-loved local charitable initiative Green Zebra has partnered with Vancouver-based 3rdWhale to launch a mobile platform that will connect anyone with an iPhone to Find Green—a directory of local, sustainable businesses and coupons.
The Find Green app is free and already live in hundreds of cities across North America. For visitors already accustomed to using Find Green, Green Zebra’s coupons are a bonus unique to Metro Vancouver.
Find Green is the only source for green mobile coupons, and its accessibility and savings will make any tourist happy. The app offers a search engine, maps, business descriptions, and great deals through Green Zebra. In short, it has everything needed to help visitors find all things sustainable…like where to rent bikes, and where to get ingredients for an organic picnic to pack for the ride. Where to find restaurants that prioritize local and sustainable foods, where to get organic and Fair Trade coffee, and where to find a drop-in yoga class. And coupons to save money at every stop.
A local fan of Find Green is Travis Streb, Environmental Research Coordinator for BC Hydro. “Having this available on my iPhone makes it really attractive,” says Travis. “I have the Green Zebra guide at home but I don’t always know when I’ll need it. When I’m in a new area, the app is an easy way to find good places to check out, and the coupons provide an incentive to actually go there.”
How user-friendly is it for tourists? “You don’t even need to type anything," Travis says. "I’m looking for somewhere to eat, three restaurants might pop up all within walking distance, and I can pick the one with a Green Zebra coupon.”
Green Zebra is a fundraising initiative of TB Vets Charitable Foundation, a local social enterprise with a rich history of providing employment to people with disabilities, and funding research, education, and hospital equipment to fight respiratory illness in BC.
Find Green is currently available from the iPhone App Store and is coming soon for the BlackBerry.
