  “Green” businesses offer products and/or services that are specifically eco-friendly.  Environmental claims about their products can be backed up with specific content percentages or totals (clothing made from 50% organically grown cotton and 50% recycled polyester, or building products containing 100% FSC certified wood).  Products or services with a clear and significant environmental advantage would also apply (locally grown produce, services reducing or eliminating the need for motorized transportation).

• Local
  At Green Zebra we feel strongly that a thriving economy is vital to a flourishing community, and that patronizing independent, locally based businesses is good for both the community and the planet.

• Community-Minded
  Green Zebra is proud to partner with non-profit organizations, as well as businesses that contribute significantly to the community.  This can mean providing financial support, donating gifts-in-kind, or providing education to community groups.

• Responsible
  There are many business practices that contribute to a sustainable community, from “greening the office” to equal-opportunity hiring.  Green Zebra supports businesses that embrace sustainable practices in their day-to-day company operations.  This is most often verified through independent, third-party accreditation (Canada Green Building Council, EcoLogo, Fairtrade, BC Association for Regenerative Agriculture).

• Wholesome
  Services that cultivate health, wellness, inspiration, and education are an integral part of sustaining a community.  Any business or organization with a mandate to sustain wellness of mind, body, or spirit is encouraged to participate in the Green Zebra guide.  In the case of health practitioners, special consideration will be given to those providing natural, holistic, preventative, and/or educational services and treatments.

It is our hope that by being part of the Green Zebra guide, our participants will be inspired to continually pursue new ways to contribute to a healthy, sustainable Vancouver.  In their ongoing pursuit of sustainability, we strongly encourage our participants to inform their consumers about their efforts and successes.
